Making contact with those in the spirit world can be achieved by many methods but none are so intense, or so utterly absorbing and emotionally fulfilling as trance. There are different degrees of intensity in this form of mediumship where levels can be lighter or deeper and the sources of blending with spirit may occur with subtle difference. It may be that various mediums will identify differently to spirit guides within their work depending upon the distancing obtained. It is a form of communication between spirit guides and the medium and may well be confined to working circles.

When a medium trains, they will often sit in a development circle which can number anything from 15 people through to as little as one other person. Here they learn to make contact with the spirit world in a deeper way and some may find they have the capacity for deeper trance work. Circle members may be able to listen to the wise and informative words of a spirit guide spoken through the medium in varied and differing ways.

The spirit communicators may be at various distances from the medium, from as far away as 40-50 feet, but spirit guides who have a strong connection with their medium are able to come very close to them. At times, they may even completely take control of the apparatus of breathing and subconscious functions of the physical state. This connection can induce feelings that the guide has walked into their auric field or even into their physical body, which indeed, for some, may be the case. Some may have evolved a kind of mechanism to enhance a heightened physical involvement, which helps the energy transfer. Occasionally, the spirit world are able to take complete control if the medium is pliant enough, borrowing the physical body for the duration or parts of the time whilst in the trance state.

We understand that in a normal state of consciousness, the auric field extends for about between two and four feet depending upon how the person feels. Their happiness or disposition will have a dramatic effect upon this part of energy construction of physical state. In an altered state, this field of energy and sensitivity may extend a lot further; possibly 20 feet away. Trance may occur at different levels and can be included in these various states ranging from various levels of consciousness, from light to deep trance as with channeling, overshadowing or inspired talking.

In trance conditions will vary depending upon the energy produced to develop the medium by the other sitters. Care must be taken to commit time in a regular way. Preparation should be made by everyone that all negative thoughts must be left outside the room (from the days events) and no further talking or discussion be entered into by the sitters involved. The room, which can be relatively light surroundings compared to that of the physical circle room. Maybe a red light or some other form of low light, such as a candle, firelight or shaded light. This is arranged to allow the peace and serenity to fill the room, and also, to lift the vibration along with the sitters thoughts and feelings emanating from those involved.

The trance medium must have no fear, and this only comes from development. Always say an invocation or prayer stating your intent; why you are there and what you wish to achieve. This should be a standard set for any development with the spirit world and whatever gifts you wish to unfold. Always ask for the highest and best to be present during the event and never leave the situation unattended. Say thank you afterwards to close the communication. During some situations, help may be required especially during the early days of development, as difficulties can arise out of proximity awareness, even causing breathing problems, anxiety attacks or similar problems, usually because of lack of development or through closeness of a new energy vibration coming from a new spirit guide trying out the mechanism to see if they can fit the harmonic.

Our greatest task is in bringing these energies of love from the spirit realms and using what we can give to these times of joining participation. The activity of the audience is crucial to any sitting of communication, whether being involved with the trance state or when giving clairvoyance. The audience send their loving energy, usually from the solar-plexus to the medium and to the spirit world, which will enhance the communication process and enable a stronger connection with those of the spirit light.

Perhaps, the more well known form of spirit trance communication and is when the full cooperation of the medium is utilized. In this form the medium will spend some moments attuning to their guide, before seemingly falling off to sleep. After a brief period the medium will have become an instrument for the guide, the mediums conscious mind can be subdued allowing the guide to be able to use his/her voice and body directly. In explanation, our medium has simply withdrawn to allow the spirit communicator through and will be unaware of the words actually spoken by spirit. Often tape recordings of these meetings are made to enable the medium to benefit from what was said but this should not be done without the prior consent from spirit.

Public demonstrations of trance mediumship have been given to mixed reactions. To hear an individual suddenly start talking in a foreign accent or even language alien to them and speaking of things we can often not confirm, can to some people, be a little hard to swallow. But if we listen and dispense with our own logic and take in the words that are spoken we may find great enlightenment. Sometimes, the spirit may help to bring through information of loved ones, or help in matters of health, either for humans or animals. Occasionally it might be with scientific information to help humanities progress as well.

Often, the communication of a guide is eloquent, knowledgeable and enlightening. A truly 'in trance' medium will not be stuck for answers to questions as they are not a party to the communication, but through the spirit operator, we may not always hear what we expect. The communicators may take many different forms, as children as well as adults, depending on the spirit disposition or how they may wish to place themselves using the genetic structure of inheritance.
The form of mediumship that I undertake is deep trance, which is when the medium, know absolutely nothing of the events or passage of time of existence. Very often, I am placed in a form of suspension so that all recollection and awareness is absent. Nowadays, the spirit world take my consciousness to another place though never the same place twice, as I would then come to expect it, so my mind could then infiltrate the situation. At some events the spirit people allow my spirit to astral travel with them to another place. I will remember different scenes of learning or awareness completely at odds with the situation or event taking place or even find myself in a different environment altogether.

There may also be times during a circle sitting or public demonstration, when individuals may see appearances of spirit energies or individuals around the room or close to the physical form. The majority of my particular engagement with spirit folk appears to be through philosophy and communication, relating very strongly to the mechanics of how events are achieved or within the subjects of thought; of how, why, who, and what we are doing here. And importantly, about planetary issues surrounding our wellness and desire to move forward in our behaviour, creating a better path for the future.
